Through introductions by Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen CB OBE RAF, Constable & Governor of Windsor Castle, and Major General Sir Michael Hobbs KCVO CBE, Governor of the Military Knights of Windsor (who is also a BRIT Advisor) I was introduced to Gill Labrum, Headteacher at The Windsor Girls' School and Julian Clauson, Headteacher at The Windsor Boys' School.

On arrival at the magnificent Windsor Castle, I was met with a very warm welcome at the beginning of Windsor Long Walk by the Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, Councillor Colin Rayner, accompanied by his wife, Samantha, and Julian Clauson.

Before we set off on todays 6 miles of my 2012 mile journey, I was joined by 60 students from The Windsor Boys' School, 60 students from The Windsor Girls' School, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Fire Fighters from Windsor Fire Station, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, soldiers from 1st Battalion The Coldstream Guards, the Community Officer from Thames Valley Police and former New Zealand Rugby International, Zinzan Brooke.

It was a pleasure to meet School Sports Coordinators Ryan Gregory and Aimee Harkins who accompanied the students from the schools. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to many of the students about their aspirations and their thoughts on charities and young people who face adversity.  I was not aware that I would be supported by so many groups from the Windsor and Maidenhead Community and it was a huge moral boost. I'm sincerely grateful that they gave their time to walk with me today.

This has been a tough week of walking and as I draw closer to completing the South East and my first region of England, the next few weeks will be even harder to ensure that I visit Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland by the end of February.

Thanking the Royal Borough of Windsor
