I am delighted that I'll be joined by BRIT Mentors, Sally Kettle and Oli Dudley on the WAAT4 Challenge this week.
The competitors of the WAAT4 Challenge will be completing the 30km or 40km routes in one day. With my spinal cord injury I would take far to long too finish in one day, so we are starting on the Thursday and will be walking approximately 8 miles each day.
It's going to be tough going. Dr Angela Gall, the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Consultant at the London Spinal Injury Centre explained;
"The energy Phil uses when walking is three to four times that of someone without a spinal cord injury, making it incredibly draining. Eight to ten miles a day is a fantastic achievement and will require a great deal of effort and determination. Phil is walking the equivalent of a marathon-distance effort a day".
I will have a core support team comprising of my great friend, Lieutenant Colonel John Maddison MBE, who is a serving Royal Marine, and I am delighted that inspirational BRIT Mentors, Sally Kettle and Oli Dudley, will also be part of the team.
