Day 14 - Eton College Rowing Club / Dorney Lake, Berkshire

Yesterday I had a "non-location" day in West Sussex so I can recover and managed a very slow 4 miles in the gym to keep reducing the miles and to look after my legs.  This took me down to 1890 miles to go and by completing 8 miles today, I am now down to 1882 miles and slightly ahead of my target.  This very small cushion of miles will allow me to walk a little less on the days when I have problems with my legs.

Today I was hosted by Eton College Rowing Club at Dorney Lake http://www.dorneylake.co.uk/ which will be home to the London 2012 Olympic Rowing, Canoeing and Kayaking activities.  It's a stunning location and this morning visibility was about 20 metres and the ground was covered in snow. There is a 5000metre path around the lake and this was free, to a degree, of snow which made it much easier for me to walk.

The staff at Eton College Rowing Club were delightful this morning and made me feel very welcome.  Ivor Lloyd, who runs Eton College Rowing Centre, Dorney Lake, and Patricia Powell, Marketing & Public Relations Officer, made the today possible and I am sincerely grateful or their support.

Within minutes of arriving, Paul Whiting, Watch Manager of Station 17 Red Watch in Slough (Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service) arrived with two engines and Red Watch and it was a huge moral boost to be accompanied by the fire fighters for the first stretch of the walk.

Once again, the Fire Service turned out to support me and they stayed as long as they could, with the Fire Engines shadowing us on the emergency road alongside the lake before responding to an emergency call.  Every day the Fire Service walk with me and I cannot put into words how much their continued support means to me when I set out to walk.

I returned to West Sussex and completed a further two miles on the treadmill to complete the 8 miles and it's been another great day in another very supportive County of the South East.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow when I'll be walking with young people at Park House School and Mary Hare School in Newbury.

Many thanks once again to Dorney Lake and Red Watch for all your support!

1882 miles to go!

Best wishes,

Phil
