After a wet and windy start to the BRIT 2012 Challenge, today I did something a little different. Whilst the majority of the time I’ll be walking at venues there are a few days scattered throughout the year where I’ll be walking locally.
Today, “locally” meant 10 miles on the treadmill and I was able to monitor my pace so I can continue to make sure that I walk properly and don’t add too much strain to my back and I look after my legs. The plus to this was I stayed dry for the first time in days, but the negative was walking by myself. I can honestly say that 10 miles has never gone so slowly. I missed talking with people today while on the treadmill.
These few times of the year when I’m walking locally is usually due to other obligations and responsibilities. The BRIT Team that are coordinating my challenge might have wished I was out walking somewhere, however I also had to attend a meeting to discuss the land and a potential site to the BRIT Centre of Excellence.
The great news is that the plans are really coming along. Schools, colleges and universities are getting on board and wanting to know when I’ll be in their area so they can come and walk with me. The Fire Services are fantastic and showing up to every venue they can. In yesterday’s blog I challenged all of the professional football and rugby clubs to sign up for the challenge and raise money for their favourite charities; I’m hoping that as each day goes by, we’ll get that message out there so we can enthuse young people to take part.
If you haven’t gone on the BRIT website yet, at www.britishinspirationtrust.org.uk, then do so now and sign up to complete the challenge. You can choose to raise money for a charity you believe in, and at the same time show your support of BRIT and the work we are doing to help young people facing adversity. Everyone can take part in this Challenge regardless of abilities. Join the BRIT journey!
Now, I’m off to have a really long soak in a hot bath.
42 miles down and 1970 miles to go!
