I have recently taken on the challenge of gaining a simple display of support from all 648 Members of Parliament. I have written to ever MP personally on behalf of our Young People facing Adversity (disabled, deprived, living with medical conditions, wounded and young carers). Gaining their support will send a positive message to Young People facing Adversity.
There are young people living in every constituency who need support, inspiration and to see that there are times when everyone can come together, believe in possibilities and make things happen. BRIT will reach out to every part of the country and extend our support to young people where ever they live.
My vision for BRIT is to understand young people and listen to what they need regardless of status, race, gender, culture, faith and orientation. The Government has given permission to use the prefix "British" and BRIT has gained the support of the Prime Minister and the leaders of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly.
As the Founder and CEO of BRIT I choose to remain a-political. I do not speak out against organisations, individuals or offer opinion – there are well-established organisations and charities that fulfill this role. Instead BRIT, my Young People’s Visionary Steering Group and I, aspire to champion the positives in life and believe in people, their organisations and their aspirations.
The BRIT Website, on the "People Page" and under "MPs", will display every MP from every constituency who is showing their support and so we can thank them all for their combined support. We can also show Young People facing Adversity that their MPs are supporting BRIT
According to the government over 600,000 young people (1 in 17) are classed as having a disability. When the BRIT Centre is built, our charity partners will be invited to identify those young people facing their darkest times to come to BRIT where we will introduce them to inspirational people and opportunities within a bespoke themed month to assist in regaining their self-belief.
I have intentionally not asked for Public Funding to build BRIT. Our ethos is about working together and my aspiration is for grant making organisations to support the running of BRIT and for businesses to build the BRIT Centre.
A simple display of support goes a long way and I, like everyone, occasionally need to know that support exists and that people believe in me. No matter how long it takes, I will build the BRIT Centre for young people and their charities because I believe it is possible and I know from the 30 Charity Chief Executives, so far, who are advising and supporting me, that there is a need for BRIT and for the Centre of Inspiration.
A huge BRIT thank you to the Members of Parliament who are showing their support, acknowledgement and understanding as BRIT aspires to reach out and inspire Young People facing Adversity in your constituency.
Phil.
